Medowvale Public School:

Fifty years ago, five acres of land which bordered Cecil Avenue became the site of a new school. Meadowvale, named after the subdivision it was to serve, opened its doors in October 1954, to students in this area. At the time, there was no overpass over the QEW and no crossing guards. The school contained four classrooms, two washrooms and a general office. The Board at the time was especially proud of the kindergarten room, a true indication of progress for a rural Board of its size.

Over the next two years, the area around Meadowvale continued to grow, and in 1956, two more classrooms, a principal’s office and a stockroom were added. By 1965, one-half acre of land was purchased and added to the property, but no additions to the building were made at that time. The population of the school fluctuated slightly over the next decade.

It was not until September 1973, when three major subdivisions were introduced to the area that the Board of Education decided that Meadowvale School should have an addition. The addition to Meadowvale School would include: • 4 open area classrooms 1 general purpose room • 1 library 1 principal’s office • 2 dressing rooms 1 staff room • 1 secretary’s office 1 seminar room

The present population is approximately 180 students. Meadowvale School continues to be a centre of educational excellence, community events and spirit. Many of Meadowvale’s former students, now have children of their own attending the school they grew up in.
