• The Nova House Book Riot Relocates! (May 7-10, 2015)

The Nova House Book Riot Relocates! (May 7-10, 2015)This spring the Nova House Book Riot moves locations. For its 38th year, the event will take place at Niagara Square between May 7th and 10th, 2015. In previous years, the Women’s Place of South Niagara used the Niagara Falls Sportsplex; however, due to greater demands for space, parking and accessibility, the organization chose this high-traffic venue for its largest fundraisers of the year.

Typically, proceeds surpass $40,000, though with extra space, volunteers and coordinators look optimistically towards this year. The 10,000 square-foot storefront has a much larger capacity for goods, so residents are encouraged to make lots of donations. Books, board games, DVDs, video games, CDs and more are welcomed at the Sentinel Self Store facility during regular business hours.

During the year, Women’s Place of South Niagara also hosts two other events: Strike Out Violence Bowling Tournament and Cut It Out. Strike Out runs every October in honour of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Soon to be underway, Cut It Out begins in March, when salons across the region raise funds for the organization and promote its services. As this will begin shortly, swing by the event page to see participating shops.

Nova House (Niagara Falls) and Serenity Place (Welland) support 209 women and 150 children, providing counselling and community resources to empower them and help rebuild their lives.
