• Niagara College among Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges

    Based on research funding figures from 2012, Research Infosource Inc. has ranked Niagara College number thirteen on their Top 50 Research Colleges report. Among other leading Ontario colleges, Niagara was also acknowledged as fourth in research funding. Between 2011 and 2012, Niagara College’s funding increased by more than 22% ($2.64M to $3.25).

    The research program at Niagara College partners with various businesses from around the region to produce and test prototypes, analyze technology, and develop new products and processes, all with the intention of improving innovation solutions. Common areas of focus include advanced manufacturing, agriculture and environment, business, digital media and IT, and food and beverage.

    Through these partnerships, Niagara College not only aims to enhance the productivity and efficiency of local small businesses, but to also boost the economy by creating new jobs as a result of their applied research initiatives. Furthermore, the college strives to establish regional, provincial, national, as well as international networks to obtain similar goals.

    With such ambition, it will be interesting to see where Niagara College places on next year’s survey. Research Infosource Inc. compiles such lists annually, highlighting the nation’s top research universities, corporate R&D spenders, and research hospitals.
