The Camera Place began life in 1960.  It soon though, came under the wing of James Studio, then operated by Ken and Emily James.  In 1988, David and Jillian Govan purchased The Camera Place and almost immediately joined Fotosource, a national alliance of independent photo retailers.

The premise on Valley Way was soon outgrown and in 1991 the business was moved to it’s present location on Queen Street.  Rapid growth in the 90’s meant that a second store was necessary and Ridley Square in St. Catharines was selected.  This became Jillian’s  baby.  Jillian, being the creative type, gradually changed the focus of the Ridley location from photography to scrapbooking.

Back on Queen Street it remained business as usual with a studio being added and of course with the digital revolution a Fuji digital lab was installed. As well large format printing and custom framing were added.

Today you can buy or rent a camera,  rent the studio, and have your images enlarged, mounted and framed under one roof.  Don’t know how to do that.  No problem…we’ll teach you.  Sign up for one or more of our classes, and take it as far as you want. Or preserve your memories in a scrapbook that generations to follow will enjoy and admire.
